Raised at an early age to become Sidious's apprentice, Maul never had a true child hood, instead pushing himself to new fields of excellence. Sidious was a harsh mentor and once filled his apprentice's room with dinkos as punishment for flinching at the bite of one of the creatures, locking him in until they were all killed. At the final stage of his training, Sidious sent Maul to an uninhabited Outer Rim planet and was forced to survive against a legion of assasin droids. He survived and as a final test he had to duel his master in lightsaber combat. He beat him and was christened a Dark Lord of the Sith. Darth Maul fully gave himself over the dark side, building a traditional Sith lightsaber and tattooing every inch of his skin with jagged black and red patterns. He carried out numerous missions across the galaxy over the next few years that few know anything about. When his master sent him to kill a Jedi Knight, he jumped at the chance. He tracked his target, Qui-Gon Jinn, down on the planet Tatooine and the two dueled. However he got away. During the Battle of Naboo he got a second chance, dueling both Jinn and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi. He killed Qui-Gon, but out of anger, Kenobi continued to fight him. He did not survive and was cut in half by the young Jedi.
