Records of Qui-Gon Jinn's early life are cloudy, however, it is safe to assume that he grew up like a normal Jedi student. When it came time to choose his second padawan, he chose Xanatos, son of an incredibly rich family of the planet Telos. Xanatos was a brilliant student, but his attitude and high birth constantly led to clashes with his fellows. As his final test, Xanatos and Qui-Gon were sent to Xanatos's home planet, where a civil war was brewing. His father, Crion, asked Xanatos to join his side in the war. Xanatos agreed and Qui-Gon now had to fight his own apprentice. During a battle, Qui-Gon killed Crion and Xanatos attacked him. Qui-Gon bested him in combat, but couldn't bring himself to kill his student, so Xanatos fled and Qui-Gon was driven into depression, disacknoledging his success with his first student, he referred to Xanatos as his first student. When he met young Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, however, he decided to take him as his third Padawan. The two stayed together for eighteen or so years. During the war of the Trade Federation and Naboo, the two were sent by the Republic to act as ambassadors. However, the head of the Trade Federation, Nute Gunray, discovered their true identities. The two fought their way off the ship, fleeing to the planet Naboo. Once their the attempted to reach the capital, which, unfortunately, was on the other side of the planet. Luckily, they met a gungan outcast by the name of Jar Jar Binks, who took them to the underwater city of Otoh Gunga, where he persuaded the Bosses to give him, his apprentice, and the Gungan transport to the capital. Unfortunately, to quickest way was to go through the watery core of the planet, which was filled with dangerous monsters. After making the way through the core, the Jedi were shocked to discover that the Federation had already taken over the city. Freeing a regime of pilots, the Jedi freed the queen and set off for Coruscant. However, the ship was badly damaged and they had to make an emergancy landing on Tatooine. During that time, Qui-Gon met a 10 year-old slave boy named Anakin Skywalker. The boy had a natural gift for the Force. He discovered a way he could both get off the planet and take Anakin to the Jedi Council for training. Anakin's owner, Watto, had him participate in the Podraces so he could earn money. Qui-Gon bet him his ship for the boy's freedom, and the repair parts he needed to get off the planet that Anakin would win. Thanks to the good piloting skills of the slave, Qui-Gon received the parts he needed. But, on the way back to the ship, he ran into a Dark Jedi, who nearly killed him. Qui-Gon brought the boy to Coruscant, however the Council said that the boy was too old, but they still would consider it. In the days that followed, Qui-Gon fought in the Battle of Naboo, coming back in conflict with the same Dark Jedi, Darth Maul. Unfortunately, this time, he was killed. Obi-Wan then killed Maul, becoming a full fledged Jedi.
